This week I've been unpacking baby things and trying to make room in my house for another person.
Even though he'll be a little person this isn't an easy feat.
I'm in the midst of working on a post about storing children's items but in the mean time, I had to post this image I came across.
Look at all those wonderful shelves. This would be so simple to recreate with some simple stock shelving from home depot or ikea. I couldn't live day in and day out with that many things lining the shelves so I'd incorporate some storage boxes to control the clutter.
I'm slightly tempted.

I put shelves like this from Home Depot up in a guest room/office in my old house and they really did end up looking cute (when filled). I was really surprised (and had been worried about them making the room look generic when we bought them). Cute pic!
ReplyDeleteHow would you keep preschool age kids from attempting to scale a wall of shelves like that? Especially if there was anything placed up there that they wanted to reach?
ReplyDeleteEm beat me to it...

I have a entire wall up in my sons room like this. it is seriously my favorite thing! love this image. haven't seen it before:)
ReplyDeleteLove the look but would hate to have to dust every shelf and every item on the shelves each week!
ReplyDeleteI am finishing up a playroom for a client and we used a pair of bookshelves from ikea... the price was right and they look great! Go vertical!

I like the look, but now that I have kids, I'd never do this. Toddlers grab at anything in their reach. So, those bottom shelves would be a nightmare to maintain. As they get older, they will go vertical, as the other commenters suggested.
ReplyDeleteOf course you can NEVER have enough storage. That wall would really grow with them. So fun to be getting ready for another little set of feet! I love it.
ReplyDeleteWe just finished my sons' bedroom (ages 6 & 11). We had to get the Legos under control. We went with the largest Ikea Expedit unit and attached the desk to it. I found some boxes from Target and voila! Instant storage that looks great! All the shelves in that photo would drive me crazy and my 3 year old would definitely climb it.
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to your storage post!! Preparing for little ones with tight closet/nursery space is no easy feat- you're right! Can't wait to hear your tips.
