I'm guessing many of you who read my blog also tune in to watch Mad Men. It's just one of those things, I don't know why I like it so much, but I do. Of course one of the reasons I tune in each week is to see the amazing interiors created by Mad Men's talented set designers.
When I was watching tonight it struck me how many on the elements used in this era of decorating are popular again today. My favorite Mad Men space hands down is the Draper's new Living Room. Look carefully at some of the details. Let's break it down.
Bold Pattern chairs- Almost each and every one of my clients has a great chair on their wish list. It doesn't seem to matter whether we are doing a living room, a bedroom, or basement my clients want great chairs and often great patterns. The Draper's chairs are upholstered in an amazing lattice print that is widely used in decorating today.
Pelmet Boxes-These seem to be back in fashion and in a big big way. Think of them as frosting for your windows. I love the subtle curve on the orange trimmed version in the Draper's living room.
A bold sofa- I love the burnt orange upholstery in this room. Oh la la. So chic. Did you notice the Asian inspired corners on the arm.
Gilded sconces-I just purchased a very similar pair for a client this week. these can be found a plenty on eBay and in antique stores for fair prices. They add a lovely bit of glamour to the space.
In honor of Mad Men and my love of vintage pieces I'm declaring this week Old is new week. All week long I'll be posting about ways to blend vintage style with your modern decor. Lots of great stuff coming up so get excited.

I looked for a picture of that room just last week. It looks so current! Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove those chairs!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten into Mad Men, but I do work next to Hazelnut in New Orleans, the store Brian Batt owns. He is at the store often and while I haven't watched any of the episodes, maybe I should get into it!
ReplyDeleteThat sofa is so great! I like it!
