Last week I showed you my lovely new fabric find with a promise that I would share the plans for my
master bedroom spruce up planned for the next month. Am I a nerd because I do inspiration boards for myself?
This space has been one of the least loved rooms in our whole house. Partly because, apart from sleeping
I don't spend much time there, and partly because I've been stuck with my concept for the space.
Well I finally decided what direction I am going after contemplating one
of the main pieces for a year, and now I am really excited.
I can't believe I am posting this picture on the internet, but in an effort to keep it real, here is what I've been living with since May:
Sad right?
I think part of the reason I've been stuck is that I've been dealing with some inherent issues in the room that have left me with tricky spots. This room is fairly small and although we have a big closet, there isn't much room for anything else besides the bed, nightstands, and a bench. There is also an oddly placed window that you can't see in the photograph that was causing some issues.
Because of the size of the room, I knew I wanted it to feel light and bright, hence the use of a lot of ivory and white as a backdrop for my fabrics. I'll be posting a breakdown of my inspiration board tomorrow with details on the items.
Hope you are getting as excited as I am!

Oh girl you have no idea - you should see what I've been living with for 6 months!!!! I think you'd cry haha. I will be posting a "before" picture next week because are painting this weekend. Finally!!!
ReplyDeleteI have that Vanguard bed and it is HEAVEN! I especially love the way the mattress sits down into the frame-- a regular king duvet covers everything perfectly-- unlike my old bed for which I had to have a custom duvet made in order to keep the boxspring, etc covered.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's nerdy at all! You need a cohesive vision for your own spaces, too! I love the pieces you've chosen. It will be such a calm space, can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteLoving that inspiration board! You're room is going to be absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration board! http://dbf-atelier.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLove your inspiration board. I posted the pitiful state of my bookshelves earlier this week in hopes it would spur me to do something about them. My master bedroom is pretty sad as well (we just moved right before Christmas).
ReplyDeleteLOVE those nightstands! Where are they from?
ReplyDeleteLove your bench and lamp possibility. Where is your rug from? You are SO on the right track.

ReplyDeleteps. Your "real" looks pretty real. We've been in our house for a year and a half and I'm just now working on our room.

My husband and I have an older townhome that sounds like it has the same small/strange layout, so I can't wait to see what you do! I love the color pallet!!
ReplyDeleteWe've all been there! No time to do your own house when you're working on other people's homes. If it makes you feel any better, I "stole" our nightstands 3 months ago from our bedroom and moved them to another room. Since then, my husband has been using an old end table and my lamp & alarm clock sits on the floor.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I LOVE the bed and the rug! Can't wait to see what the end result of your room looks like!
ReplyDeleteoh caitlin, it will be gorgeous. the bed itself is amazing! can't wait to see!
ReplyDeletei have a few yards of that ikat that needs to be put to good use. hmm... xo

ReplyDeleteRedos are challenging, I don't blame you! Hope you get started soon, so that you can enjoy the new room! I think that you are on the right path with the whites and soft blues. Can't wait to see pics of the new and blissful master bedroom!
