Brand New Fireplace thanks to MGS

If you follow my blog then you know we've been working on our house little by little.

One of the things that has drove me nuts since we moved in was my fireplace surround.

I love the classic detailing on my mantle, but the cheap terracotta tile just had to go.

The picture above was taken right after we purchased the house before painting. I think the 80's floral couch just makes this look, right? And the faux painting was done to match.

SO I debated about what to replace it with. I went back and forth but I finally decided to stick with Carrara Marble which I have in my kitchen and all my bathrooms.

I get e-mails all the time about who I use as a stone supplier so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share one of my favorite sources with you, MGS by design.

Inspiration overload

I'm still trying to process all the great experiences from Alt Design Summit.

I'll be posting a recap later this week, but for now I wanted to share

some inspiration for some client spaces I'm currently working on.

You may remember this bohemian living room and dining nook I posted a few months back.

I'm working on finishing up that house with my client and our current projects include her guest room, office, and son's room.

She already has some great foundation pieces so we are just building on

what is already there and bring in some fun pops of color and accents.

Here is the inspiration board for the office

I'll let the guest room be a surprise. I think it might be my favorite.

Whoa. My head is spinning from information overload.

I spent yesterday soaking up genius from all the amazing speakers at

Altitude Design Summit and I don't know if there is room in my brain for any more.

I have a big install coming up this weekend too so wish me luck.

kid friendly fabrics

My dining chairs are trashed. And I mean trashed. They are vintage faux bois chairs and I LOVE them, but the upholstery on them has seen better days. I've been on the hunt for quite some time for a kid friendly but stylish fabric that I could recover them in. Let me tell you that even with all the resources at my fingertips, this has not been an easy search. I just got grass shades for my kitchen windows so now the kitchen space is almost complete and it has really got me itching to deal with the chairs.

I was so overjoyed when I discovered a random sample from Joseph Noble floating around my office,

and I was even more excited when I discovered how reasonable their pricing is.

Their heavy duty abrasion collection is full of great options that are industrial strength

and will hold up to all the the spills and stains the the little munchkins attack them with.

I'm trying to decide if I want to use the New Zealand Faux Ostrich, Shagreen, Stingray, or the Great Fake Leather.

You will seriously not believe how much these fabrics look and feel like real leather, and they are only 39.50 a yard.

I even tested my sample by cleaning it with soft scrub and it worked like a charm.

Just what I need to hold up to my little boys.

My Birthday Weekend

My husband deserves major points for hijacking my blog last week to wish me happy birthday. He is a sweet one that Dan.

I got this lovely hydrangea for my birthday from my mother in law, she knows just what I love.

I've been enjoying it all week, along with some of my new design books.

My birthday was wonderful thanks to my family and friends, and my sweet little boys.

The celebration included breakfast, bowling, a little shopping

and a night out with Dan at a local restaurant that I love,

Then Sunday we had a family celebration and some wonderful presents with my family.

It was perfect.

I meant to post last week but after I hit the ground running on Monday, the running just never stopped. Hubby also made my week by finding me a ticket to ALT even though it is sold out.

I'm so glad I'll be able to go after all, and darling Christina will be coming to visit.

Busy week ahead with an install, kitchen re-vamp, and the usual list,

but I do have a few fun things to share, including a new look I'm working on for the blog.

Connect the dots

I'm kind of smitten with this little pillow today.

Every now and then I find something really amazing from Land's End.

I love them because their prices are so reasonable.

My favorite thing about the pillow is how the polka dots have a painted look

that makes them more interesting and more chic than plain old polka dots.

It reminds me of a few other dotted designer fabrics that I love, Circo from Lee Jofa

and Tika from Lisa Fine, one of my favorite textile designers.

I've been thinking you could recreate this look with some diluted fabric paint

and a pencil eraser for a small scale look, or a round sponge for a large scale dot.

I haven't had the chance to try it out yet, but it could be a fun DIY.

Any takers?

I love a little bit of polka dot in an unexpected place.

It can take a sophisticated room and keep it from feeling too stuffy.

You expect to see a little bit of polka dot in a child's room

but look how awesome it is in this office

And how Jamie used this ikat dot in her bedroom featured in High Gloss.

But my all time favorite use of any ikat/dots has to bee these chairs from Lilly Bunn Weekes.

Doesn't it seem like "Pinterest" is the ultimate buzz word these days?

I loved this little excerpt from an article my husband recently shared with me:

"Back when I was young, my cousins would cut out photos, ads and visuals from fashion & lifestyle magazines and create collages. We would buy used magazines for a few pennies to get the right image. We would put the clippings together and then stick them on the bedroom walls and feel very cool because being able to create an awesome, colorful collage showed a little something about you."

Isn't Pinterest just doing the same for all of us but without all the glue and magazine shreds?

And does it make you feel old that you actually remember making collages?

I think I still have some stashed away some where.

And as to Pinterest, I'm marking my one year anniversary and approaching 4,000 pins.

My Grosgrain Go to

I love the simple touch that a band of grosgrain ribbon can add to a curtain panel or pillow.

It's details like these that you really see in rooms that are designed vs. bought.

I'm a sucker for beautiful trim, but designer trims can often be as expensive as

designer fabric if they are purchased through the big mills so one way I cut costs

is by purchasing grosgrain trims by the roll through apparel manufacturers.

The price is significantly lower and you still get a beautiful quality product that gives you a custom look.

One of my favorite go to brands for this is Petersham Ribbons. Their Rayon grosgrain so beautiful. The texture is so much better than the cheap stuff you would buy at a craft or sewing store and it actually looks and feels like silk grosgrain, so it totally reads designer.

Their color card alone is stunning.

You can buy Petersham products online through Britex fabrics.

They have multiple widths so you can find just what you are looking for.

And then you can decide how to use it...

Looking back on 2011

2011 was a crazy year for me.

I had a baby and moved to a new office,

and all while my business was growing.

Here are a few of the highlights for me:

In January I prepped for the baby to come,

attended ALT, Started redoing my master bedroom,

and hit up market to check out the new goods.

In February I shared a few of my favorite things,

did a breakdown of Sarah Richardson's amazing yellow room,

and we welcomed Baby Elliott into our family.

In March I laid low with the new baby but I did share some

of my designer confessions over at 6th Street Design School.

In April I shared a few snippets of my house,

including some progress on my master bedroom,

and hosted a giveaway from Joss & Main.

In May I posted some pictures of a client project I worked on,

shared some images of a new construction project I worked on with Tiek Built Homes,

and had a little online tag sale.

In June , I shared my tips on beachy living, and my love for nooks and crannies.

In July I had a remnant sale with Caitlin Wilson and Kirsten Krason,

showed you a lavender nursery that I did for a client,

and shared the details from my sisters wedding.

In August I shared pictures of a dining nook I did for a client,

a bohemian family room, and some pictures of my kids.

In September I shared images of the Spring Lane home

I worked on with Tiek Built Homes, all of which can be seen here,

shared a sneak peak of little girl's room that I worked on for a client,

and went to Texas for the Round Top Antique Market (post coming soon).

In October I shared the news about moving to my new office,

announced the debut of my friend Caitlin Wilson's line of textiles,

and shared my love for pinterest.

In November I moved in to my new office,

hosted a giveaway from Lewis and Sheron Fabrics,

and went to Hawaii with my family.

In December I was pretty much missing in action,

mostly because I was busy with work and wanted to enjoy the season with my kids

(here they are in their Christmas jammies from under the nile).

I did manage to post some snippets of my Christmas decor and a glimpse at my new office.

And let's not forget about those Holiday sales.

All in all it was a very busy but great year.

Thanks to your wonderful support as readers and followers.

I'm hoping to share much more with you in 2012,

including a bunch of projects I worked on in 2011 and never got around to sharing.

After Christmas Sales

Wow Christmas sure threw me for a loop, how about you?

I am happy to say that my Christmas decorations are all cleaned up and put away.

After the chaos of the holidays I just needed things restored back to their natural order.

Does this make me a Scrooge?

This week I've been hitting all the Christmas sales to stock up for next year.

I swear it is the best way to buy holiday decorations if you have the discipline.

I'm giddy about this wicker tree skirt I got from Terrain.

I'm sure I'll be able to find multiple uses for it and it was only $20.

I'm dying over this pretty green block print pillow.

My holiday decorations are mostly green and white so this would fit perfectly.

I also stocked up on some of this darling bunting from bhldn.

Great for Christmas, Easter, birthdays, whatever.

I love decorations that are sweet and simple & bhldn is a mecca for chic and simple decor.

I'm thinking of snatching up some of these darling votives, for my Valentine's day decor.

(which I've already started a pinboard for, by the way)

Christmas Bells are ringing

Whoa, I can't believe Christmas is only a few weeks away. We've been busy over here getting our halls decked and I've been trying to get a bunch of projects wrapped up before the holidays.

It seems like all of my clients go a bug to do their kid's rooms for Christmas

so I've had a lot of fun the last little while making large orders of bla bla dolls,

scouring etsy for cute children's art, and buying pom pom trim galore.

I didn't do much in the way of decorations last year because

I was too tired with my pregnancy, but this year we've gone all out.

Here are a few little snippets of what Christmas looks like around our house:

One of my best sources for holiday decor is always World Market.

I never walk out of there empty handed.

This year I scored a handful of great ornaments there for our tree.

I've been finding new and creative ways to decorate with sunburst mirrors.

Winston wrote his first letter to Santa

And work, I've been doing lots of that too,

it helps when I get to go to a beautiful office like this every day!

LA Plates Trunk Show

Back from Hawaii

Hello all, I'm back from Hawaii. Hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I spent mine on beach with my family. I had planned on blogging while I was away but once I got there I just couldn't bear to open my computer. I think I needed some r & r. The picture above is a view from our beach. We stayed on Oahu in the Marriott at Ko Olina. My family has stayed there before but lots had changed since the last time we visited, like the new Disney hotel Aulani that just opened next door. It was amazing and worth a post all of it's own.

My little Winston loved digging in the sand and playing on the beach. We spent most of our time doing that, but we did make some visits to Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, and Honolulu.

Here we are heading to the beach and taking half of our hotel room with us on the stroller.

My Husband Dan with our little guy, Elliott. Dan doesn't make many appearances here on the blog but he should be considered VP of Caitlin Creer Interiors. Whenever people ask me how I run my business with two small kids, my immediate answer is always that I have a really supportive husband who makes a lot of what I do possible.

And now we are back and I'm facing a mountain full of Laundry. Ick.

It's been too long

So I'm back.

I just had a wonderful weekend celebrating my anniversary with my sweet husband who surprised me with a fun date night and sleepover at The Hotel Monaco. We hadn't been on a date in a while and it was so fun to have some time with just the two of us. Our Anniversary is 11/11 which means we share it with a handful of newlyweds that just tied the knot on Friday.

It was so fun to see a few brides and grooms checking into the hotel at the same time we were.

As if that weren't fun enough, this Friday we are headed to Hawaii on vacation with my family

for Thanksgiving. I cannot tell you what a dream that sounds like with the busy work week

ahead of me so I'm definitely counting the minutes until we board the plane.

I cannot wait to sink my toes in the sand with my little boys and just soak in the sunshine.

My new office

Soon after little Elliott arrived I realized that the concept of work life balance went totally out the window. Although having a home based business with small children is great, it presents it's own set of challenges. Work is never far away and neither are the kids so when I was working at home I began to feel like a crazy person and that both my kids and my work weren't getting what they needed.

For the last 6 months I've been looking at office space. I went back and forth about a lot of different set ups. I knew I needed space for all my samples, catalogs, and client items and I knew I wanted a space that I could host little sales when I have inventory to get rid of, or just want to throw an event. After looking and looking I got a call from my friend Liz Wixom over at Elizabeth Kimberly Designs saying they had an opening in their building. After about 5 seconds of thinking about it, I knew this would be the perfect fit.

So over the next two weeks I'll be moving in to my new office over at EK Studios. There are 4 other designers who will be working in the space with me and we share the most amazing design library reminiscent of Bunny William's amazing library featured in Lonny (pictured above). The best part is I will have a full time assistant to handle all my orders, billing, and even inquiries from the blog. Hopefully this attempt to organize the chaos of my life will be just the right answer.

Spring Lane Master Bedroom

With 4 small children my clients really needed their master bedroom to be a relaxing retreat.

The paneling detail that Steve Tiek designed was so beautiful that I wanted to keep the room light airy so it wouldn't upstage the great architecture of the space.

One of the few pieces of furniture my clients had their eye on before

I came into the picture was this Scroll Headboard from West Elm.

We had this love seat custom made so it would fit the alcove exactly.

It is arguably one of my favorite parts about the whole house.

Spring Lane Nursery

This room is so sweet to me because my client made two of my favorite things on the room for her sweet little babe. We had seen the mobile and the A print made of buttons on pinterest and we knew they would be the perfect DIY projects for the space.

We had been pretty restrained with the use of color in other parts of the house so we went bright and bold in this space. The concept for this room started with an inspiration image of a bright yellow crib from Caroline Armelle, and this wonderful bird pillow from Anthropologie (no longer available online)

Baby Elliott and I are boarding a plane today to visit one of my dearest friends and a scour one of the biggest antique markets in the country for some fabulous finds. We're headed down to Houston for the Round Top antique market.

Excitement doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. Antique markets are one of my favorite things and visiting Round Top is one of the goals on my life list. I'm hoping to come back with lots of amazing finds to share with all of you.

It was so much fun designing this room because I have a little boy the same age as my client's son. We wanted this space to be all about fun and personality. The whole concept started with this cool rug we found. I've gotten lots of e-mails about this rug, and I hate to say it but I think you'll have a hard time tracking it down.

Spring Lane Pink and Orange Girl's Room

I got lots of excitement when I posted the inspiration board for this room a few weeks back,

Our original inspiration for the space came from this room by Palmer Weiss that was featured in Lonny:

The girls loved the bold orange headboards and the head shots

pictured above the beds so we knew that aspect of the room had to stay.

I found that perfect orange fabric for the headboards

at a local fabric wholesaler and we were on our way.

We based the whole room scheme around this amazing Potalla pattern from

Quadrille and purchased pillows made out of it from Woody Liana on Etsy.

Spring Lane Craft Room

I'm quite envious of this space since my home office currently looks like a war zone.

I loved going over to the house during the install and seeing my client's 2 oldest daughter, 7 and 9 busy at the sewing machine. I even took them a basket of my scrap fabrics to use to for their projects. The gorgeous cabinetry was designed by Benjamin Blackwelder and finished off with butcher block counter tops from ikea and hardware from the local craft store.

The space is clean and simple with room for the imagination to run wild.

I hope next time I visit the house I see a big creative mess in here.

This awesome Tristan pedestal table from World Market is only $79.99 (it reminds me a lot of this more expensive one) and a great size for an accent table yet still enough surface area to actually use it for display. I'm buying one of these for my soon to be remodeled basement.

I had to share a sneak peak of this little girl's room I finished last week.

That wallpaper had me at hello. Thibaut Chelsea collection.

Gorgeous and it comes in lots of colors.

Spring Lane Family Room

The light in this room is amazing. It has windows on 3 sides and feels so open and airy. The client's were set on the sectional for the space so the trick was to keep the room feeling open.

We stuck with a crisp color palette of gray, chartreuse, white and various blues.

We used a cozy wool shag rug to keep things cozy and soft and layered in some crisp patterns to add a fresh spin to the simple space. The ship lap and grass shades give it a coastal vibe that I love!

This space is really the heart of the home.

The gorgeous white kitchen cabinetry by Benjamin Blackwelder is a show stopper for sure.

We did a custom bench seat at the bar to give the kids a comfy spot to pile on.

The moorish lantern tile is unbelievable in person.

Growing UP

My little peanut is six months old today. It seems like just yesterday that we brought little Elliott home from the hospital and now he is getting so big. One of my friends, Molly Jones took some darling photos of Elliott when he was 3 days old. I'm just now getting around to putting some finishing touches on his nursery and getting some of these fun pictures developed.

I'll be sharing some shots of my nursery next week, so stay tuned.

This little space is just off the bohemian family room I posted about a few weeks ago.

I love the texture of the grass shades and the mix of patterns in the pillows

Gorgeous Fretwork Chairs for Sale

The pink and orange girl's room

The girl's room in this house might be one of my favorite spaces.

My client has 2 girls ages 7 & 9 so we wanted to make a space for them that

was fun and cool with lots of color, but something that would last the pre-teen years.

and just because I know you will ask, the paint color in this room is Love and Happiness

by Benjamin Moore. It is beautiful and just warm enough without being too overwhelming.

Our original inspiration for the space came from this room by Palmer Weiss that was featured in Lonny:

The girls loved the bold orange headboards and the head shots pictured above the beds.

You'll have to stay tuned to the blog for our own interpretation of the look,

but I will give you a little sneak peek at the inspiration board:

We based the whole room scheme around this amazing Potalla pattern from

Quadrille and purchased pillows made out of it from Woody Liana on Etsy.

The countdown is on!

This week is the final stages of installation for a house I've been working on with

Tiek Built Homes for the last few months. It's always really gratifying to a see a project

like this come together, but there are a definitely a lot of nerves, late nights, and even

sometimes tears involved in a large project like this. Doing a whole house with a

tight deadline can be such a big undertaking. Add other clients, a busy schedule,

a toddler and a new baby into the mix, I think you have a recipe for insanity.

We're on the countdown though and I'll be sharing snippets of how

the home is coming together all week long, so stay tuned.

Above is the inspiration board for the living room.

We wanted to go with some classic pieces, but pieces that still felt fresh and not too stuffy.

The inspiration for our color palette came from this kitchen nook from Serena and Lily.

Things are coming together and the sofa is getting delivered this week, but I have to say

I think my favorite part is going to be the window seat! I just can't get over the pillows!

Bohemian style with a modern twist

These pictures are of a family room I recently completed for a client. They were taken by the lovely Sara Bateman a few weeks back. One of the things that I love about what I do is that each project presents a new challenge, and ultimately a new style. My client Stacy wanted a space that felt bohemian and eclectic, but modern at the same time. What I love most about this space is the detail, pattern, and interest in it. Between the art, objects, and textiles there is so much to look at but because it is all unified by a simple color palette, it pulls together.

We used a microvelvet on the sofa (feels like velvet, holds up like microfiber and is great with kids) to soften the look and add coziness and a modern lacquered coffee table.The chevron rug is from Calypso Home.

My client Stacy had a great collection of art and prints that help bring an eclectic vibe to the space.

I love the texture these woven chairs bring in. These were the client's own, but I knew I didn't want this space to feel too new of contrived so we decided they would stay and just added some sweet little pillows to tie them in.

The media piece and coffee table are both by Bungalow 5 and add a sophisticated and modern feel to the space.

Little Lila was our assistant on the photo shoot. We're just finishing up her room

upstairs with the most gorgeous Thibaut wallpaper. I can't wait to share it with you!

The key to getting an eclectic look is all in the mix.

I love searching out interesting accessories to add some unexpected details.

Happy Anniversary

Yesterday was my little sister's first wedding anniversary.

Thinking about her anniversary made me realize that I never posted

any of the pictures from her beautiful wedding last summer.

The wedding was really sweet for us because all of the table cloths and chandelier belonged to my grandmother who passed away about 10 years ago. All night long all we could say was how much she would have loved the event and all the details!

We all know and love this Fallon rug. I use it all the time and even had one in my own home for a while. You may not know that Jill Rosenwald, the designer of that rug has just come out with some brand new additions to her collection! I love these wool flatweave rugs because they are affordable, and stylish.

The Lavender Nursery

I just got back from a week at the beach and it was heaven. Our beach house didn't have internet and my phone broke half way through the trip so I was pretty much off the grid. It was sort of nice to be removed from the usual upkeep and e-mails. I'll be paying for this the next few days as I catch up on things but it was worth it to have some rest.

Right before I left for my trip I got a CD of images from my awesome photographer Sara Bateman from our recent photo shoots. It was like Christmas Morning!

I couldn't wait any longer to share this gorgeous nursery.

Every single time I go to work on this home, I don't want to leave.

I just love how calm and peaceful this space feels.

beach living

I'm headed to the beach in a few weeks on a family trip and all my

anticipation and planning has got beachy rooms on my mind.

Someday (in my dreams) I will have an airy and beautiful beach house with the

perfect pops of color. I imagine it in shades of seaglass, yellows, and coral reds.

It would have a rooftop deck with lots of space to lounge and plenty of cozy

places to curl up with a good book after a long day in the sun.

And of course it would have lots of little trinket collected at antique markets.

All we need is a simple kitchen with the basics

It would be bright and airy like Lulu Dk's gorgeous home and have

plenty of room for our family and friends for weekend stays.

and of course there would be plenty of room for

everyone to gather for games, or chats, or to watch a movie

and at the end of a long day, comfy beds with crisp bedding to crawl into.

Sounds like a dream, right?

One of my favorite things to do on Saturdays in the summer is attend the Abode Summer Markets. Abode is a local consignment store and on certain Saturdays throughout the summer they open up their parking lot to locals and host a little mini flea market of furniture and home goods and gift items. The selection is totally unique every time and that is what I love about it.

One of my best friends will be hosting a booth there tomorrow and among her items will be these darling little onesies (whose proceeds go to charity) and some furniture she has refurbished.

Thanks to a nasty case of strep throat I've been out of commission for almost a week.

Thank goodness for antibiotics!

All that down time laying in bed gave me plenty of time to catch up on my ZZZ's, blogs, and spend hours getting lost on pinterest (I know I'm not the only one completely obsessed, you can follow me here).

Lately I've become enamored with cozy little spots with built-in shelving. I live in a charming older home with all sorts of little idiosyncracies, and one of the things I love/hate most about my house is all the little nooks with funny little built-ins, storage, and spots for a romantic little vignette.

I'm always on the lookout for original ideas for wall decor that are a little out of the box.

I loved the look of these antique hand mirrors hung in a gallery. This is something that would be such a cool detail, but could be done really inexpensively if you scoured eBay and antique shops, and etsy. It would be especially darling in bathroom.

the new hot house flowers

You'll be seeing more of this home down the road but I didn't want to leave you hanging anymore. This home happens to be extra special because the client is also my photographer, Sara Bateman. If you are looking for a great family photographer in the Salt Lake area, be sure to check out her blog.

One thing you need to know about Sara is that she lives in a very traditional home, but she is very hip (yes she is a mother of four, but still very hip). As we were approaching this home we wanted to make sure that we incorporated pieces that gave the spaces just a little bit of a young and fun edge (which is where the awesome rug, fun fabrics, and imperial trellis wallpaper helped us out). a showstopper

Thanks to everyone who came to the sale. It was a great event and it felt so good to unload all that stuff. I saved some of the best items to list here on the blog so check back this week for a few wonderful items for sale. But now to the real treat.

I'd like to say that I spent the last few months laying low and snuggling my baby, but that is not entirely true. Part of the reason I haven't been blogging much lately is that I have been extremely busy with work projects, one of which I'd like to share with you today.

I'm currently working on a newly renovated house that I wish I was moving into myself. This renovation is impeccable all thanks to Tiek Built Homes. They are a dream to work with and they have fussed over many of the details of this home to get things just right. I have been so impressed with their attention to detail and commitment to quality which is definitely something you want when working with a contractor. If you're planning a renovation and you live in Utah, I highly recommend them. I'm already planning to use them for next renovation on my own home.

We're right in the middle of selecting all the furnishings for this gorgeous home but I couldn't wait to show you a few pictures (all photos by Miekel Reece):

Get excited. I'll be sharing more about the design plans for this home over the next few weeks.

It will be nothing short of spectacular. The fabrics and wallpaper alone will stop your heart.

I think it is safe to say that having 2 kids has finally caught up to me. It seems like each day just wizzes by in a blur! Any tips from you seasoned moms out there would be greatly appreciated!

But now onto to more exciting things. I've been rummaging through all my goods in preparation for the big sale and I have even more stuff than I realized.

Let me tell you guys, this is going to be good.

In an effort to lure all you local readers there, I thought I'd give you a little idea of what to expect in terms of items and pricing. There are quite a few people participating, and if you have something you'd like to sell, bring it along and park it on the lawn. The more the merrier I say!

It's that time of year when I get the urge to get rid of everything I've been burrowing away.

The event will be held at a new location this year and will be including the cast offs from multiple designers and stylish friends.

Home for sale!

One of my friends is selling her gorgeous Cottonwood Heights home and moving to London.

If you're looking for a home in the Salt Lake area, you can view more information on the listing here.

There is an open house this Saturday from 12-2p.m. @ 7173 Towncrest Drive, 84121.

I've helped her with bits and pieces of her house and it is a gorgeous space with great light.

It has a really cool modern/mid century vibe to it which is hard to find in Salt Lake.

single and loving it

Although I'm a happily married woman, I'm digging the singles scene, with pillows that is.

A few months back I noticed the big fluffy pillow above at my client Sara's house.

I was instantly intrigued. A single pillow, what a novel idea.

I usually have the more is better philosophy when it comes to throw pillows, but this clean look had me changing my tune.

This look is great for a few reasons:

1. It is a great way to give a lot of impact to the space with a single pattern

2. Those of us who have kids know all the pillows end up on the floor anyway,

so this would make for quicker and easier clean up.

3. It offers a more streamlined and tailored look and allows you to show of the lines of the sofa.

4. If there is a fabric you love, but the price tag scares you this is a

great way to employ the fabric because you only need 1 yard.

After I spotted this look at Sara's house I started noticing it all over.

This gorgeous spread is from Cococozy.

I love how the magenta pillow pops against that white sofa

A lovely Ashley Hicks pattern from John's Journal.

This lady might not be single, but she's certainly the star of the show.
