summer camp

I cannot imagine a more exciting summer camp than this. Taught by none other than the amazing Tobi Fairley

Seriously if you are anywhere in the vicinity of Little Rock, Arkansas you should make sure you are one of the attendees. I wonder how much flights from Salt Lake to Little Rock are?

You'll be learning from a real pro. Tobi Fairley is one of the best, and if you don't believe me, just take a look at these rooms:

perfectly periwinkle

When I was 13 my absolute favorite color was periwinkle. I even did a project for my 8th grade home economics class where I decorated my dream house entirely in periwinkle and white. In case you were wondering it was lovely.

Every once in a while, I still find myself drawn to things that are absolutely periwinkle.

This vase is the perfect example.

Sponsor Post: In store at Alice Lane

Visiting Alice Lane is such a treat. I have a client who lives nearby so I've been able to visit a few times lately to pick up some items. The store just gets better and better each time I visit and I'm always excited to see what new merchandise they have in store.

Alice Lane is offering an amazing promotion that I'm sure you will want to take part in and all
you have to do is become a friend of Alice Lane on facebook! Read below for more details:
While I was in store a few weeks ago I snapped a few pictures of all the pretty new goods for all of you to enjoy.

Mayhem

The yard sale was fantastic. Thanks to all those who attended. I was overwhelmed by the attendance and it was so fun to meet some of my readers and pass on the goodies to homes that will appreciate them. I got quite a few e-mails about items I had included in my preview post. There are a few things I set aside that I will be listing on the blog this week and I may be having an online fabric sale later in the summer once I build of my stash again and get some homes wrapped up.
Hope all of you had a lovely weekend!

Just in time for those summer family portraits! Don't miss Jylare's summer sale!

Yard Sale

image via real simple

I've been working all week to get organized for the big yard sale this Saturday. This has meant going through piles and piles of fabric, closets full of accessories, and figuring out how to part with furniture I love, but don't need to keep. Our garage is packed to the brim with goodies.

I've had a quite a few people e-mail me asking for preview pictures of what will be for sale. I'll try to snap some tonight but I have to admit our garage is so full it's hard to even get access to some of the items I want to show off.

Just know, this sale will be big and it will be good. I would suggest coming early.

I'll try to post some pictures of what will be selling tomorrow.

summer colors

I am head over heels for every single one of Victoria Webb's beautiful paintings.
She sells her stunning work in her etsy shop, Furious Dreams.

I would really love to buy one for my home but I am having the hardest time coming even close to picking one.

Which one would you choose?

blue door

I spotted this gorgeous door all the way back in March when I was in New York.
It made such an impression on me I had to snap a picture. I loved the moroccan feeling to it.

Too bad they don't make storm doors like this.

Yard Sale

Creating inviting outdoor spaces

Here is a link to the segment on outdoor spaces from Studio 5 last week.
And of course you can read below for my tips and tricks.

Summer is meant for being outdoors. Anyone who has a patio space
dreams of lazy summer nights spent sipping lemonade,
but unless your patio space is luring you outdoors, it is probably
never going to happen. Creating a great outdoor space is all
about bringing elements of the interior out to the garden
so that you have a patio that feels homey and intimate.

Here is a link to the live segment today on Studio 5
and a few tips to create an outdoor space you won't be able to resist:

Comfortable Seating

Unless there is comfortable spot, sitting outside in the heat is going to be uninviting.
There are so many options in terms of outdoor seating these days, so whether you opt for a hammock, an elegant lounge, or some comfortable chairs, great seating is key to creating an outdoor space that will actually get used.

Greenery
You don't want an outdoor space to be so decorated that you forget you are actually outside. When considering the layout of your yard, think about where the optimal places are for dining or lounging. Make sure they are spots where views of the yard are prime. If your yard is lacking a pretty view, you can simply create one with some potted plants or table top arrangements.

Color

Part of creating inviting outdoor spaces is making them feel like an extension of your interiors. Incorporating color is a key way to bring personality and life to your outdoor areas. Color can be introduced in a variety of ways including plants and flowers, cushions and pillows, umbrellas and accessories.

Shade
Even when your kids are running wild through the sprinklers, you can still have a zen moment with a shady spot and a book. Shade is something that is key if you want a space that will be used all the day through, and not just after 8 p.m. when the sun goes down. Some patio areas have built in shade, but if you are blistering in the sun considering incorporating an awning or umbrella to protect you from the summer heat.

Adequate lighting
As much as you need that bit of shade during the day, you'll want lighting to keep your patio functional all through the night.
If you don't have out door lighting wired to your home,
you can bring in light through lanterns, solar fixtures,
and even some pretty garden lights.

Landscaping and layout
A garden should feel like an escape from the craziness of what is going on in the outside world (or inside the house). As you are planning your yard, consider how they are going to compliment your seating areas and the function of your yard. If you're wanting a space that will primarily be used for dining, make sure it's close to the house so you're not transporting food to and from the kitchen. If you want some calming seating as an escape from the day, tuck it in
a shady corner of the yard that will feel like a hideout. If your kids spend hours in
the sandbox, make sure you nestle a cozy spot for you to sit nearby.
Whatever your needs are, make sure the layout of your yard is meeting them.

mountain wedding

Remember that wedding I was working on a few weeks ago? I turned out lovely and windy.
The wedding was held in Midway, Utah at a beautiful farm with amazing views of the mountains. These images were shot by the talented duo at Chudleigh Photography. I am obsessed with their gorgeous photos and they were a dream to work with.

Here are some lovely snapshots of the event:
