obsession

My garage is a furniture graveyard.
There, I said it. It feels so good to be honest.

Mirrors, lamps, side tables. They all seem to call to me.
But my problem really lies with the chairs. Oh the chairs.

I imagine they come alive at night and talk to each other, telling their stories of past lives.

This chair happens to be my new obsession. Can you see why?

I'm thinking these chairs
with this fabric would be a close match.
What do you think?

wonderful wallpaper

There is nothing I love more than a happy room with happy wallpaper.

I've been working on a playroom recently and the wallpaper went in a few weeks ago.

Isn't it divine? Wait until you see the rest!

Bohemian Bird Houses

Birds are a big trend in home decor right now, whether they are on a pillow, in a painting, or living in a sweet little bird house on your wall. A while back I posted the image above on my blog, CC Interiors. I'm not normally a scissors and glue girl, but when I saw those birdhouses, I knew I had to get to work. I thought they were so delightful, and sometimes you need a little fun and whimsy around. These bird houses are a darling decoration for spring or for a little girl's room. They're easy, fun, and best of all affordable.

Materials needed:

Unfinished wood bird houses (available at any craft store, from $1.00-$6.00 depending on size)
Modge Podge
Various prints of scrapbooking paper
Scissors
Paint Brushes
Ruler
Acrylic paint
Loose Change
Velcro tabs or some other adhesive to attach to wall.
Decorative birds available in the floral department at any craft store

Step 1: Prep your materials.

Set materials out on a clean flat surface. Pull out any posts from the front of the birdhouses and save them for later.

Step 2: Cut and trace front panel out of scrapbook paper
If you are doing multiple bird houses in the same style, you may want to make a template out of card stock. Trace the outline of the birdhouse on your decorative paper and cut outline.
You will have to trim to get an exact fit. Make sure all your edges are covered but do not have excess paper bleeding over.

Step 2: Cut and trace hole in front panel, tracing around a coin to get a perfect circle
Lucky for us these tricky circles happen to be the same size and dimes, nickels, and quarters.
Place the paper on the bird house to make sure the placement of the hole is correct. You'll be able to feel where the hole is behind the paper. Trace around coin, and after poking a hole in the middle of the circle, cut it out.
Make sure to do your best not to leave any jagged edges.

Step 3: Adhere front panel to bird house using Modge Podge
Using your paint brush, spread the modge podge glue across the front panel of the bird house and attach paper. Smooth out any bubbles and make sure the placement is correct.
You can poke a small hole using a pen, where the post should sit and push the post back in.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 3 for roof and side panels:
Using different patterns of paper for the sides and roof, cut out paper and adhere using modge podge.

Step 5:
Paint the trim on birdhouses using
 corresponding colors of acrylic paint.
If you are planning on using these for outdoor use, coat the birdhouses with a polyurethane sealant

Step 6: Arrange bird houses in a grouping and hang on wall using Velcro tabs or other adhesive strips. The wood these are made of is very soft and a nail is likely to split it.

Step 7: Affix birds randomly on posts for a little whimsy. This step is optional if you like the birdhouses plain.

To make this project with younger children, you could have them paint the birdhouses using acrylic paint in varying colors.

flame stitch

I've decided flame stitching is new the thing. It seems as though these slightly
bohemian/slightly kitschy prints are showing up everywhere these days.

I think this pillow from Urban just might be my favorite sighting yet.

Moments from NY: a recent project

Here's a sneek peek at one of projects I was working on while in NY. I spent a lot of my time while I  was back there shopping for accessories at my favorite stores (more to come on that) and pulling things together for a few clients. This was one of the projects I was working on. Doesn't it make you want a blue velvet sofa of your very own?

I don't care what people say, I never get tired of Chiang Mai Dragon.

more vintage wallpaper

And if you're looking for a roll or two of vintage wallpaper, don't forget ebay

Lots of great deals to be found.

moments from NY: Second Hand Rose

If you like wallpaper, then you must plan to make a pilgrimage to Secondhand Rose. This wonderful little gem of a store has been stuck on my to do list for years, and I wouldn't have made it there with out my friend Jill who recruited me to go a long.
We just missed a certain hand bag designer whose initials are KS (if you don't know who I am talking about you shouldn't be reading this blog). She was looking for wallpaper for her house in the Hamptons(insert sigh here). This store also happens to be a favorite of set designers from around the world, including our favorite Mad Men.
When I entered and saw this:
I think I nearly gasped out loud.Had I died and gone to wallpaper heaven? I think so.

Second Hand Rose is the place where pretty rolls of vintage wallpaper retire until someone stylish scoops them up and deems them cool again.

I literally spent an hour browsing and touching and imagining what I could do with some of the prints I fell in love with. Just a few are pictured below:
I'm not the only one who loves this store, the very day I went there was an article about Secondhand Rose in the NY Times, and Habitually Chic also posted about them recently as well.

If you're not headed to New York anytime soon, don't worry. Secondhand Rose has a website with most of their prints and they are happy to help with any questions you may have. Ask for Martin. He'll tell you everything you ever needed to know about wallpaper.

And then some.

Back from the Big Apple

Okay, okay. So I've been back for a week and I'm still trying to get caught up. Laundry, cleaning, baby, clients, errands, blog. It's all been a bit much in the last week.

But are you ready to hear about my trip to New York?

Moments from NY: pretty paper

Look what I saw firsthand when I was walking down Lexington Avenue. The Shumacher collection for Dempsey and Caroll is even more beautiful than you can imagine!

It stopped me dead in my tracks. Literally.

the moroccan pouf

I have to admit I was on the fence about moroccan poufs for a long time.
This image of Kelly finally made up my mind. I'll take 10 please.

I've seen some great ones on ebay lately.
There are bargains on them here too

another green chair

One of my darling readers Amy sent me this chair that she just got back from my favorite upholsterer Brian. She was so inspired by this post, that she decided she needed a green chair of her very own.

I think even Jonathan Adler would be jealous of this.

Housekeeping

I just wanted to give you all a heads up that things may look a little different around this little blog of mine in the next fews days so don't be alarmed if there are some kinks in the process.

The re-design I've been working on with the talented Jess for the last few months is ready to launch. I can't wait!

Norah's Nursery

One of my new friends and clients Caroline created the most adorable nursery for her daughter Norah, who is now almost one.

I love all the little details Caroline put in to this room and the fresh combination of colors. You can read more about all the details here

What a lucky little girl!
